Bipolar is a very difficult disease to deal with. The ups and downs can change from minute to minute, from hour to hour and from day to day. Most people dont relize they are bipolar. This is something that is usually seen to start in teen years to young adults. Bipolar has mania where there are alot of highs, feelings of being able to do or accomplish anything. It comes with rapid speech (fast talking) or also known as pressured speech. There are all sorts of problems that go along with bipolar mania, such as wild spending spree's and reckless behavior in other areas such as relationships and driving fast, etc. Bipolar people have been known to spend there entire paycheck within a day, and on anything that is far from responsible, bills sometimes get left unpaid and debt can really start to add up. The high feeling from the mania part of the bipolar makes it hard for the bipolar person to sit still and their sleep pattern is very few hours. Also the mania can make a person act non responibly and act on a whim. The other end of bipolar is the depression part, which can also last for hours or days or even months. The depression can really get quite bad and if not treated can sometimes lead to suicide. There is help for people with bipolar. The hard part of helping someone with bipolar is that the bipolar person thinks that his or her life is going great! that nothing is wrong in their life and anything that does go wrong gets quickly blamed on something or someone else. Also, with someone who suffers from bipolar there is a high risk of alcohol abuse and drug addiction, to where the bipolar person uses these things to "mask" the symptoms that they may be feeling. This is very "common" and can lead to other health problems if not treated properly. The doctors are not sure exactly how someone becomes bipolar, as it is said it can run in families, where if a family member has it, that maybe it can be passed down, or also it has been said that it can just happen out of the blue. bipolar and ADD people can act very similar as far as the mania part goes. Depression can lead to sleeping too much and not eating very much and a general lack of interest in the things that the bipolar person once loved to do, such as lack of interest in hobbies that they used to love, or just letting themself go such as not keeping as clean as they used to, etc. There is hope for Bipolar, there are all kinds of treatments available to the one who suffers from bipolar as well as help and support groups for the families and friend who have to deal with someone suffering from bipolar. It has been said that a chemical inbalance in the brain can cause bipolar and there are certain medications avaible to "level" the persons mood out and help them to become more stable with less mood swings, meaning less mania and less depression. Bipolar can also be caused by using drugs. There are certain drugs that can actually make a person become bipolar. So, there are alot of different factors when treating a person with bipolar. Family support is very crucial, yet dealing with bipolar people can be stressful in itself, dont forget to take care of yourself in the process. There are many different medications and many differnt treatment options, so the key is to find what works best for the bipolar person. Here are some symptoms of bipolar, spending spree's. reckless driving, jumping from one relationship to the next, drug and alcohol abuse and seeking those types of people out as their new friends, lack of caring for family, friends, pets. The list can go on. The main thing is to never give up searching for the right intervention as there are many ways to treat bipolar today and this is very encouraging!
